about sherry
“Live in the layers. Not on the litter” ~ Stanley Kunitz
“Sherry Sidoti weaves the spirit into yoga classes and sessions that are already so complete with groovy music, contagious energy and calculated movement. She encourages her flock to consider that our minds and bodies, which we already know to be inextricably linked, can blossom by carefully crafting a healthy and free spirit. She offers this simple reminder in all she shares with fresh, innovative and inspiring guidance. Along the way your body strengthens and your mind learns to let go.” – LH
Originally from NYC, and transported from Los Angeles, CA, Sherry has lived on Martha’s Vineyard, MA since 2002. She feels fortunate to offer private and group yoga and mindful fitness classes to many wonderful people from around the world.
Sherry teaches a soulful, fluid and dynamic practice. We link our breath to our movement, stack poses from basic to more complex, move towards balance between our active and receptive selves, and seek compassion, truth, and acceptance in body mind and spirit. Sherry weaves in the spirit, magic and integrity of the yoga teachings and the practice of self awareness into every class without taking it all too seriously. Each class is a celebration of life itself.
Sherry is particularly drawn to the change that is experienced through yoga – the “play” within the body; to use breath and movement, to get to know her Self and her divine nature better; and to purify the body and mind so that true spirit has a place to call home. Sherry is humbled by the process of unfolding – peeling through layers – and is stricken by the sweet power of quiet mind and seat.
Sherry says, “It is pure joy to take part in others’ transformations – to watch as clarity, compassion, discovery, energy and growth unfold in sessions, to share laughter and song and community and reach new heights with a group during classes”.
Sherry is eternally grateful for her two soul mates – husband Robert Sidoti, founder of Broga@. Real Fit and son Miles – whose unconditional love, humor and willingness to flow have illuminated her path.
She is also grateful for her teacher, Saul David Raye, with whom she is certified in Holistic Atma Yoga, celebrating the whole of yoga through the Tantra and Bhakti tradition. Sherry assists Saul in his Yoga Teacher Training and other endeavors of his programs through Ritam Healing Arts. Additionally, she is a guest teacher during Saul’s Atma Holistic Immersion and Yoga Teacher Training.
Sherry has been called to receive teachings and initiation with her newest teacher Miguel Angel Vergara, a Maya High Priest/Shaman and director of the Maya Cosmic Institute in Merida, Mexico. She completed the first phase of her shamanic initiation in 2011 with Miguel, which encompasses a deeper understanding of her study of the Maya wisdom that began for her in 1998, when she first moved to Mexico as a teen.
Sherry has Advanced Yoga Teacher Training with Ana Forrest, Vinyasa Yoga Training with Jonathan Fields & Lauren Hanna at The Center for Yoga Studies at Sonic Yoga in NYC, Prenatal and Postpartum training with Gurmukh, as well as studies with Pradeep Teotia, Swami Nirmalananda Saraswati, Jasmine Tarkeshi, Erich Shiffman, Shiva Rea, and many other amazing teachers.
She is most inspired by the many beautiful souls that have participated in her classes!
In addition to over 800 hours of yoga training, Sherry holds a BA in Anthropology from Hampshire College, A Masters Degree in Museum Education from New York University and is a certified labor Doula through DONA International. Prior to teaching yoga, Sherry lived in Chiapas, Mexico for many years and worked with Indigenous women from San Juan Chamula, was a bilingual fourth grade teacher in Washington Heights, NY, was the Education Specialist for Community Audiences for the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, and the Programs Director for the YMCA of Martha’s Vineyard “Y without Walls” program.
